My dad's sister, known to me as Aunt Nancy, passed away last week and her calling hours and funeral were this Monday and Tuesday afternoon/evenings. It has made for a long week already.
Aunt Nancy had lung cancer (GROSS) and lived with the diagnosis for 2 years before passing. Cancer sucks, and it sucks even more when it slowly takes your loved one's life, little by little. She was the Avon lady in Lakeport for 42 years. Never a morning person, I could count on Aunt Nancy calling me every month or so when I lived in Alaska. It was always later in the evening in Fairbanks, but late LATE in Laconia. She would be up and about, wanting to chat with folks and my time zone made it a perfect match! Plus, Aunt Nancy always gave me fun Avon stuff, including those tiny white trial lipsticks in tons of different colors. That was always fun!
At her funeral yesterday, many people got up to celebrate her life and mourn her death. It was not a great reason for all her friends and family to gather, but it was nice to see people that I have not seen in a long time, many since before my grandmother passed away in 2002.
As it was so nice to see everyone, I kind of set mom and dad up for a fun summer party! We used to see dad's side of the family every Christmas Day afternoon for frivolity at the Fahm. This hasn't occurred in many years, but I thought we should revive the tradition but have it in July. So, mom, if you read this...can we have Christmas in July on the Fahm?
